Fractional Factorials for Process Development

Part 2 of the ESSENTIALS series brings quick insights into your product or process using efficient fractional-factorial designs.
(Available as a private workshop only.)

Minimize resources while maximizing DOE efficiency

Use your resources efficiently with modern small-run designs that save time and money experimenting. Transition from factorials to response surface methods to optimize your products and processes. Tie all of this together by learning how to use powerful ANOVA analysis methods that give you confidence in your findings.

During this DOE workshop, discover how to save time and resources by:

  • Capitalizing on efficient small-run fractional designs for screening or characterization
  • Following the strategy of experimentation from screening to characterization to response surface methods
  • Learning best-practices for analyzing factorial designs

**Offered via Distance Learning (DL) **

Simulations Provide Practice

Use Stat-Ease software to practice designing and analyzing experiments throughout the workshop. The software provides easy-to-use graphical tools to find key variables and view results. You will be given all simulation and data files used in class.

This course will be run as two (2) half-day Zoom sessions (9:00am - 12:30pm US Central Time).

Course contents subject to change.

Session 1

  • Introduction to the Strategy of Experiments
  • Designing fractional factorials and assessing aliases
  • Characterization case study
  • Screening case study

Session 2

  • Minimum-run characterization design
  • Minimum-run screening design
  • Adding center points to test for non-linearity
  • Transition to response surface designs

ESSENTIALS 1: Foundations of Factorial DOE for Breakthroughs is a required prerequisite. This may be waived if you have an understanding of 2-level factorial designs AND prior experience using Stat-Ease software.

Basic knowledge of Design-Expert software is assumed. If you are not familiar with the software, then please download a trial of Design-Expert software (if you do not already have access to it) and work through the tutorial: Two-Level Factorial, found in the Help system. This will show you how to navigate and introduce the basics.

The Distance Learning version of this course will be held via Zoom Meetings. You will need to download the Zoom Cloud Meeting app prior to the first session.
